Hella Big

In a move that is either geekily awful or awfully geeky, UC Davis Physics student Austin Sendek has petitioned the powers that be behind the Systeme International d'Unites to make the prefix for 1027 officially "hella." What do I have to say about that? Noice!

  1. I'm still disappointed that the prefix for 10^-24 was chosen to be "yocto" rather than "guaco," because I really wanted to report a concentration someday in guacomoles per liter.

  2. That's hella concentrated, if you use any reasonable number before the unit.

  3. Actually, it's hella dilute; note the negative in my exponent. One guacomole is less than one molecule, since 10^-24 is smaller than the inverse of Avocado's number.

  4. Oops. Pardon my sign error.
