Welcome to the Grondulbarn

After some negotiation, we've agreed on a price with the seller of the house I recently mentioned. So, Alison and I will be homeowners as of April 15.

Yay. We're about to be hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt.

  1. Congratulations!

Don't think of it as several hundred thousands of dollars of debt; think of it as "future equity!"

  2. Good spin, Nick. You could also say the we will no longer be throwing our money away on rent. But I'm still having trouble not thinking of it as mountains of debt.

By the way, I'm sure you realize that, if we can talk you into helping us, this means that you will have to move the TV you thought you were rid of for a second time.

  3. Oh, goody; I've wanted to pick up that TV again ever so much!

As for the mortgage, just try to remember that it's secured debt, so it doesn't even count against your net worth (assuming that you won't be underwater at closing).

Can you post (or email) me a link to a listing for the house on Realtor.com or something so I can see it?
